RA-1 tread depth in the rain?

I was wondering how a set of intermediate (shaved) RA-1’s perform in the rain…?

I am planning on picking up 4 RA-1’s on Wednesday, swapping out my Hankook R-comps for this coming weekend on the Jefferson with the BMWCCA – it might rain and I am trying to decide between buying my rain tires now, or getting a set of shaved.

(I’ll buy another set of 4 RA-1’s in a couple of weeks, but 8 tires & 4 wheels is bit beyond this month’s budget.)

Dan:

Shaved RA-1’s do fine in wet conditions up to heavy-damp. Anything beyond that and you’ll want full-tread.

Thanks for the reply, Carter.

Unfortunately, Paul from Radial Tire (which I’m never using again, thanks to yesterday’s 4+ hour ordeal) gave me different (pronounced: bad) advice and the forecast has since changed to sunny.

Looks like I’m running full tread RA-1’s on the Jefferson (I think I can live with some tire squirm.)
