Questions for Jim and everybody else that uses PFC

#1

So I read all the threads and checked pricing on PFC pads and to my shock they are actually cheaper then my Hawks. It seems people are pretty happy with them as well. So I’m thinking about getting a set.

Any issue with switching to them? I’ve heard rotors don’t take well to switching between different compounds, etc.

Second, are you using 01 or 06? Is there a big difference between the two? I can’t seem to get a good grip on this since there is relatively little user info on the 06 compound.

Thanks!

I use the PFC06 up front. They might not have quite the bite that the PFC01 has, but they have excellent longevity.

Purists will prefer that you either change rotors, or clean them and re-bed them when you change pads. The rest of us can’t be bothered.

Later edit: Chi said it better below.

06’s up front 01 in the rear.

I prefer them to hawks recently got some carbotechs but haven’t tried yet.

I"d either get a new set of front rotors (since we chew those up any way) or just run them as is. Worst case you’ll get a slight shudder but once everything is up to temp it would probably disapper.

I’ve only switched from Hawk to PFC pads once. There was a bit of complaint from the front rotors immediately after the switch, but it went away after a few threshold braking hits.

I’ve run 01’s and 06’s all around, as well as 06’s up front and 01’s in the rear. The 01’s yield a bit better braking performance than the 06 compound. Balance was very slightly better with 06’s in front and 01’s in the rear, but I felt that overall braking was less effective. So I’ve gone back to 01’s all around. The 06 pads do wear a bit slower than the 01’s.

Carbotech X compounds really does feel better if you start with a fresh rotors and bed in a nice layer. Others, not so much.

Yes that is mostly why I haven’t run them yet. Waiting for the ‘right’ opportunity.

To be honest though I’m pretty happy with the PFCs.

#8

I’m due for a set of fronts and will get a pair to see how they are.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Do we get a discount through Bimmerworld?

So, this is probably a stupid question, but is there any reason why I can’t use PFC01 or 06 front and HT10 rear?

Also, by the lack of response on the discount question I assume there is no program.

That will work.

The E30 is heavily front biased. The bias chart is posted here in some old thread, but it was something like 65% front under light-med braking (due to caliper piston size) and then 75% front under heavy braking (due to bias valve).

There are folks that like to put lower bite pads on the rear, further exaggerating the front bias. Spec3 is an example of this, as is your pad choice. Most folks use the same pad all around.

Thanks Scott. I’m on the people that prefers the front bite. So I guess the answer to my question is: go right ahead, it’s no big deal.
