Q - Rear fire break

#1

PO drilled large speaker holes in the rear window parcel shelf / speaker deck. I had planned to tack weld some sheet steel to cover to provide for fire break - I’m sure I read this somewhere and have just searched thru the NASA CCR but not finding it. What is the acceptable guidance for holes behind the rear seat, and/or can someone point me to the rule paragraph that governs it?

Thanks much,

I don’t think this is too critical in our cars since the fuel tank is on the outside of the body sheet metal.

I am under the impression if the fuel tank is in its original location then its not required to seal the rear bulk head. I have a ski hole and placed a piece of .060 AL and riveted to the bulk head just for noise and looks.

Thanks guys - I know the tank is more underneath the car than under the trunk, but recall requiring the rear panel behind the seat to be in place as a fire break, wasn’t sure if two 6x9 holes voided that measure of safety. I’ll leave it as is.

This is a great question. The PO of my car actually cut out the entire rear bulkhead panel in order to install the fancy stereo he had in there. I am going to have the cage guy weld in a replacement when he builds the cage next month.
