Putnam

The races on Sunday are just fun events they are not actual races. I probably won’t be attending Sunday.

[quote]“Putnam Showdown”
Sunday October 4
A Speed Challenge that pits Time Trial drivers against Race drivers in a
single lap “race”. Drivers will pick a lap time they think they can turn,
starting from a dead stop and ending in a flying finish. The driver closest
to their target time wins!
Event Details

  1. Start will take place from pit lane, approximately 50 feet behind
the timing loop, thus negating the need for a “hard” standing start.
You will receive one timed lap and a cool down lap.
  2. Cars will leave pit lane in 5-10 second intervals, from fastest to
slowest. 5-7 cars will be on track at a time.
  3. Drivers must declare their lap time by 10:45 am Sunday. Form
    available at NASA Central
  4. Course configuration is at the discretion of the Race Director &
Region Director. Chicane (s) may be in play!
  5. Drivers going faster than their target time will have “Broken Out”
and lose. The goal is to get as close to the time you predict you
    can run without going faster.
  6. Radio’s, Data Aq, Lap Timers are legal for use, but not very
sporting. Make it hard on yourself!
  7. All cars will exit the track into the hot-pit as normal.
  8. Spins equal automatic “Break Out”. You lose!
  9. All applicable class/series rules apply for this race.

And the other event

[quote]The Putnam 100 “Speed Race”
Sunday October 4th 2009

Two car / Two driver teams compete in the “Putnam 100 Speed Race.” The goal is to complete the 100.662 mile or 57 lap race at your targeted average speed. The target speed is established by the team and represents their average lap speed for the entire race.

Format

  1. Each team consists of two race prepped cars and a minimum of two drivers.
  2. Each car must complete at least 20 of the estimated 57 laps. Any lap completed after 57 will be removed.
  3. Teams must submit their “target average speed” for the race to registration by the end of Saturday 10/3.
  4. Driver #1 must exit the pit lane, crossing the timing loop. Driver #2 then enters track and continues the 100 mile race.
  5. No Enduro fueling requirement
  6. All Non-Fueling enduro rules apply i.e. tire changes etc.
  7. Minimum lap speed to be no less them 10 MPH of your declared average speed
Closest to their submitted average speed wins! (Three classes, 60 mph Avg Speed, 65 mph Avg Speed and 70 mph Avg Speed)

Is there a way to get our money back for Sunday?
I don’t see a registration option for Saturday only.

No, the events on Sunday are just bonus events. You still get 2 races on Saturday. The idea is that the season will be finished on Saturday so they can hand out awards at the awards dinner Saturday night. Personally I wished they had done something like a fun race with an inverted start order or something similiar on Sunday. I have no interest in trying to pace myself to a certain speed. I also have no interest in doing 1 flying timed lap.

Simon, I’m with you. I wish they would have set Sunday as a fun race. An inverted grid would have been a blast. Mostly because you’d be behind me. Albeit briefly I’m sure.

I probably won’t stay for Sunday either. We’ll see.

Bring your snow tires this weekend. It’s only supposed to hit 56 on Saturday!

ha ha. I’ve run Mid-Ohio in the snow before and it’s not fun. you know when the track maintenance crew puts on the snow plow, it’s over.

So true. I remember sitting at a local greasy spoon all morning waiting for the officials to decide if they were going to open the track. At least they had good coffee. It was probably the same event. The final total was 7 inches of snow that day. April at Mid-Ohio is almost always a challenge.

Here’s hoping we have some decent weather this weekend.

Never knew Blizzaks were race tires.
