Proper class designation

#1

For the car decals, is it still SO this year, or is it SE30, or is it SE30-SO? I was not able to find it defined in the rules.

I think that now that the 318’s are gone, no class designation decal is needed.

This is what the rule says this year, versus last year… you can see that the reference to the class designation has been removed and replaced with the future spec e30 decal:

[i]2007
7.4.1. Each car shall (3.1) display easily readable numbers on each side and the front (hood) and rear of the vehicle, of significant size and color differentiation from the body color so as to be clearly seen by timing and scoring officials. Side numbers shall (3.1) be a minimum of 8 inches high with a 1-1/2 to 2 inch stroke. Hood and rear numbers shall (3.1) be a minimum of 5 inches tall. In addition, class identification shall (3.1) be displayed near the side numbers a minimum of three inches high. Class designation is SO.

Spec E30 decals shall be required at some time. The cost will be kept to a minimum and

So the short answer would be no, you don’t need the SO, but will need a decal at some point in the future.

I read that in the rules, but doesn’t it seem strange that no class designation is required at all? This seems unlikely to me, and potentially an oversight. Is there any other class in NASA that doesn’t require one?

On the NASA log book tech inspection form there is a box for class designation decal, and I know my log book inspector well enough that he is going to balk at no class decal.

I suggest SPECE30 in the lower section of your door placard.
Mike mills had all the availible classes on his car.
If you run SPECE30 the chances are less that you get confused with PT or GT.

PT, GTS and SE30 all run Group A and all have E30s. I can see a situation where grid/corner workers or T&S would want to know.

I’ve read the rules and the CCRs, I’m going with something. It used to be SO, then discussion last year of SE30 so I will just go with SE30-SO, then I can peel off whatever isn’t needed later.

what is the advantage / reasoning behind an extra “official spec e30 decal” that is coming later?
