Proform shift light

#1

Anyone using one of these? I wired mine up tonight - red to power, black to ground, cut brown lead for 6 cylinder, green to - coil lead. It works but it is way off - I had to adjust to 3750 rpm on the dial to get it to light at 6000 rpm. Am I missing something or is there another tach signal source I should use?

Thanks, Ed

I’m getting ready to install one of those (or similar model from Summit). I haven’t done it yet, so I can answer you question. But what gauge was the wire that you ran to coil? if it’s a different gauge it may be the cause?

Where did you mount the light.

I ran the wire that came with the unit - looks about 14-16 gauge. I mounted the light to the left down tube on the cage. The bracket for the light allows you to move it several planes so you can get a good angle. I can send a picture later.

Anyone? I know some of you guys have remote tachs.

Ed,

I installed a Racepak G2x data logger with tach in my 1990 and tried the picking up the signal from the coil and it was very erratic.

Check out this thread that helped me find a clean, accurate signal for the tach (Post number 4).

No real help here, sorry. I own one, but don’t yet have it on the BMW. I previously ran it on a 5 cylinder Audi, which obviously has no relationship with the knob on the back. I’ll just ask the obvious; are you sure you cut and used the correct wires?

Ken - thanks, I’ll look for that wire tonight. Ed

Dwight - I clipped the wire (brown in this case) for a 6 cylinder lead. It may just be a poor signal. If I get it hooked up - using the info Ken gave - I’ll repost for you with pictures.
