Right now I have only one set of wheels 14x6 bottlecaps. I want to buy another set of wheels, and I’m not sure if I will be better off getting a set of 15X7 or getting an additional set of 14x6. Is there any conventional wisdom on whether it is better to have two sets of the same size or two sets of different sizes?
Thanks
Preferred wheel size question

Depends on your experience. The different sidewall heights WILL make a difference, but only if you are really in tune with the car, have it corner-weighted, aligned, can tell when you need to drop 1 lb of air from the front, etc.
If this is a dedicated track car (or you plan to get really good;) ), I would recommend buying the size everyone else runs (15x7). The more similar your equipment, the easier it is to share setup tips.
Some will recommend saving the bottlecaps for rain tires; others will say that even then you want to have the same size rims.

It’s a lot easier to swap out a single corded tire when all your tires are the same size. Get 2 sets of Koenigs and put your rain tires on the 14"ers.
Chrome 19s work nicely…
F to the rulebook playa.
Seriously- I have heard some arguements for smaller wheels but I think all of the faster guys run 15s
My car is now a dedicated track car, which I am trying to build (slowly) to be a SPEC E30. I am getting closer to my goal and have been participating in HPDE’s. I run Falken Azenis RT615 on my bottle caps because the Falkens are cheap, street legal, and relatively good on the track. However, I’d like to use (and save) the Spec’d Toyos for my new wheels, which will be dedicated track wheels. From the comments, its sounds like 15x7 may be the way to go.
My attitude so far has been, bottlecaps FTW. Until I gain enough experience to be even marginally competitive, I won’t need whatever advantage in performance I may get from 15’s. Plenty of other things to spend money on before I get to that point. People will almost give you bottlecaps. What I save in wheel expense can pay for another set of Toyos.
When I can keep Skeen or Cobetto in sight, then perhaps I will spring for 15’s.
Come December or January, 949 Racing will have the spec E30 wheel available … 15x7 10mm offset …
