Power Steering pulley cuts my rad hose

#1

I replaced my motor mounts and my ps pulley still cuts my rad hose. At rest the pulley is almost touching. It an early '87 325iS, build date 12/86, with the one piece lower rad hose.

what about ditching the ps? is this car light enough to be used on the track w no ps?

Common problem, Use a zip tie to keep the hose off the pulley

#3

I also had that problem, but with the Alt pulley after the engine was involved in a wreck, replaced motor mounts and motor mount arms, still really close. Replaced the hose, and that was the problem, I just had a cheap hose that was not bent the right way. New hose was over an inch away compared to the old one (which was almost new as well from Advance Auto), new one was from AutoZone.

this is my 2nd pep boyz hose. my local autozone can only get the later design 2 piece hose???

Ditch the PS system.

Steering is fine without it. I prefer it.

One less thing to break/ leak/ ruin your day/ weigh down your race car.

3 options 2 have been covered.

1 Remove PS sytem you wont notice its missing on the track

2 zip tie or other fastener the hose away from blades

3 Replace factory mounts with stiffer poly or Al mounts.

another thing to check is that there should be a clamp on the frame to hold the hose to the chassis make sure that isn’t missing or bowed out allowing the hose to shift.

I also assume you checked your subframe when you redid the mounts. I had to pull the sub after last season, as it cracked and allowed the engine to shift… If your sub is cracked, get the reinforcements from your favorite supplier. Also make sure none of the mounting arms from engine are ovalized.
