Power loss on hard right turns

#1

I was on NJMP Lighting on Monday. I was sharing my E30 with a buddy of mine. We did back to back sessions. I noticed at the end of my session (after his) the E30 would bog down coming out of turn 11 onto the straight. It was very frustrating. I have not tracked down my problem.

What I do know is I had 1/3 of a tank of gas, maybe a little more. The next time I went out we did not do back to back sessions and I had a full tank of gas. I am not sure why, but the problem went away.

Is it a fuel pump problem?

You can see here the Vett left me for dead. I know it is just a little ol’ E30, but it was doing much better at other times.

Fuel starvation is an old problem for us. Lots of possible causes. Spend some time reading old threads and you’ll see lots of problems and solutions. An interesting recent discussion was re. rust in the tank blocking a hole in the tank’s baffle that surrounds the fuel pickup. Most of us just run with full tanks and don’t worry about it, but then we do relatively short races.

If you really want to solve this problem, I’d replace your tank and all hoses associated with venting. If that doesn’t fix it, replace your pumps. Also, carefully inspect your hard lines for crimping. You might also read some of the discussions re. surge tanks.

Guten parts has a nice small illegal accumulator that should be a spec part IMO. Haven’t tried mine yet but heard its good.

I’m good with that gizmo. I used to have one, but never installed it. If I ever ran across someone that installed one and it fixed his problems, I’d be willing to write a rule change request to get it approved.

I don’t know that you will really get proof that it works other than anecdotes. Maybe a rule that states “an accumulator of no more than X ozs is allowed to aid in prevention of fuel starvation” etc.

Thx for the info gentlemen. I am going to look into the fuel filter and fuel pump first. A have a spare fuel pump.
