Power Access at Tracks?

#1

I’ve been thinking about buying an impact wrench and not crazy about the cost of a cordless (plus having to deal with charging the battery). I’d prefer to buy a corded model, which will work great in my garage, but I’m wondering how easy it is to access power in the track paddock? I’ve never tried this. How prevalent are outlets?

Thanks,
Sasha

From my personal experience, outlets are readily at most of the tracks… at least in the southeast.

I’ve been getting power to run a fan, lights, phone charger and a few other things. It’s the way to go IMO.

Looking forward to having you back at the track, Sasha.
Especially if you have an impact wrench that I can borrow.

Sasha - you can get an inexpensive battery powered 1/2 inch impact at PepBoys. It is made by Goodyear Racing, costs about $90. We have one we bought 2 years ago and it always holds a charge through the weekend even changing wheels on 2 cars. Or … you can buy the corded model - like Scott said, plenty of outlets.

Honestly I’ve got a Dewalt 18v 1/2 drive cordless and I’ve never run the battery down, let alone had to reach for the backup (it comes with two) on a weekend. And that was when I was up with a buddy and we changed tires about 3-4 times, didn’t charge it and it still had enough juice to do a change at an auto-x a week later.

I have a 24v impact wrench that also lasts the weekend, and an Xpower 400 portable powerpack with both 12v and 120vac plugins. Most tracks in Colorado don’t have paddock power for other than the RV spots.

I’d say go cordless. We have a cheap Goodyear model too and it does the job. Some places you will need a LONG extension cord to get to your car, unless you want to drive around trying to get close to a pole.
