Potential new driver!

Hello Everyone,

Some may already know me. I was asking about Spec E30 a year ago, but instead bought an EVO and did bunch of HPDEs in 2007.

I think nothing is holding me back from racing in 2008.

I was wondering how many people are planning to actually race in 2008? I am hoping to see at least 4 cars to race with. I know Steve will be there, as well as Valley Motorwerks car.

When I talked to Walter, it sounded like there’ll be 6 cars by summer of next year.

It’s either Spec E30 or Honda Challenge for me.

I think that’s about right - I believe there will be 6 for sure, and maybe up to 8 or 9. Valley will have 2, plus Steve, Scott N., Ron, and me. My car is done and I will license this weekend and the rest of this crew already is already licensed. Scott and Valley #2 are actively being built as well as a couple more.

Are you going to be at HPDE Sunday? Come by and say hi - black e30 with blue/red strips.

Regards,
AJ

Well did you get the garage space for the build finally?
Let me know if there is anything i can help you with.
I will be at Infineon on sunday talking with Ron from AIM Tires on some contingency offers for next year. I will look for you in the paddock.

Steve - are you driving?

I should be racing this next year. Hopefully all the events, but that depends on when I can get my license…(Anyone know if I can get licensed at the January Laguna Seca event?) Otherwise I will have to wait for a driving concepts school…My car is almost on the straight home…:stuck_out_tongue: . Jump in, the more the better. I have a friend that is local that is also shooting to finishing his car and racing later on in 2008…

Brenden, you should be able to licensed at any NASA event - you need to have completed the pre-reqs of (I believe) 8 days of HPDE and/or the DC school. From experience, I would say 8 is a BARE minimum and you may be more comfortable with a few more track days than that, especially in HPDE4, because you learn so much about getting comfortable in traffic and passing situations. DC schools is really good, and I would consider it a nice "add" to driving days, not a replacement. In DC you do things like an entire session of side-by-side, another of just rolling starts, testing on flags, etc. No substitute for seat time and any driver would want enough that they are totally comfortable in racing situation. Even if you don’t race, come out to the HPDEs and paddock with us E30s until you are ready - would be great to have you out there.

In order to get set up for licensing, you need to submit your app, check, and medical exam 2 weeks prior to the track date - the instructions are on the nasa site. Look forward to driving with you in 2008.

Cheers,
AJ
