Please Critique my Suspension Settings....

#1

Just brought it back from getting an alignment - Please let me know if I need to tweak this.

I asked for this:
Front Camber = Max
Front Caster = Max
Front Toe = 1/8" Out
Rear Camber One Degree Less than Front
Rear Caster = Max
Rear Toe = 1/16" to 1/32" In

This is what I got:
Front:
Camber L. -3.4 Degrees R. -3.4 Degrees
Caster L. 9.2 Degrees R. 9.1 Degrees
Toe L. -1/16" R. -1/16"
Total Toe -1/8"
Steer Ahead 0.01 Degree

Rear:
Camber L. -2.4 Degrees R. -2.3 Degrees
Toe L. 1/32" R. 1/16"
Total Toe 3/32"
Thrust Angle -0.02 Degree

I don’t know what Thrust Angle or Steer Ahead are (but one sounds dirty). Anyone have any thoughts - suggestions - anything? The camber plates are now maxed to the negative side.

Unless they use a different notation, the toe settings are opposite of what you have asked for.

Negative toe is usually ‘IN’ and the positive is ‘OUT’.

Maybe they couldn’t adjust the toe settings.

Thrust angle is the direction rear wheels are pointing to in comparison to the center line of the car.

Never seen Steer Ahead before.

Other settings look good. Toe settings are personal preference choice.

i think steer ahead refers to the relationship between the steering wheel and the wheels.

Really? I don’t doubt you for a second, but if they are backwards, I need to have them fix it. Can anyone confirm? They were definitely able to adjust the toe (easiest part of the whole thing). The rear eccentric bushings were a pain (we really need to consider the Ireland adjustable bolts that are currently not legal - the price of them would have saved me in alignment labor alone).

Anyway - can someone else confirm, or give a link? I’ll search on it too! Thanks Chi!

So - I found this…

"Toe is a measurement of how much the front and/or rear wheels are turned in or out from a straight-ahead position. When the wheels are turned in, toe is positive (+). When the wheels are turned out, toe is negative (-). "

So - am I ok?

John,

I looked up the Hunter Machine information and they also define toe in as ‘positive’ and toe out as ‘negative’.

So, I am assuming you are ok.

Which means, either I have been getting my settings wrong from GTE or maybe their machine uses different notation (although I thought they had a Hunter machine.)

Anyway, sorry for the false alarm.

That is why this board is such a good thing! I was ready to raise hell too  Good information - and to all - this might be a place you want to double check that what you want is what you have!

I checked with GTE this morning and I was wrong. They use the same setting as everyone else.

Negative is Toe Out and Positive is Toe In.

I think I’m just getting old. :frowning:
