Performance Friction pf 01

#1

I was thinking about my brakes this past race weekend at Sears Point. I am on my second set of pads and rotors and it seemed that the first set had more initial bite and overall better braking performance. They are the same set up, Brembo rotors and Performance Friction pf01 pads on all four corners. The first set was bedded correctly but the second set went out new on a wet slow warm-up and a wet qualifying and then a dry race, then another full race weekend. I am not sure if the brakes are not working as well or since I am getting faster they just seem not to be working as well. I know you guys back East use the pf01 more than we do out West so I was hoping for some feedback.

I was thinking of switching to Hawk blue pads to see it there is a difference.

Thanks

Hawk Blue is taking a 15 year leap backward in technology… The bite is good, but the release is very tacky, which means it is hard to trail brake into corners. I maintain that the 01 is the best pad I have used, but if you want to try another brand and want a lot of grab, we have the Carbotech XP12.

I’ve recently run PFC 06 compound in my car in circuit racing in Australia. I haven’t had the chance to run 01 yet, but the 06 was more than good enough for what I’ve been doing. Much better performance and reliability than the EBC’s I’d run before.

Just to let you know, my car is on the same brake system as you guys: standard size pads & discs (slotted), braided lines & 2" (SCAT-8) ducting for cooling. The only difference with my car is an E32 750i master cylinder & a Tilton Brake Proportioning Valve.

The 06 is available in the 0278 & 0279 pad shapes (E30 Front & Rear). Try them today.

Do you guys get the Ferrodo DS3000 in the US? It is the pad of choice in New Zealand in E30 Racing, but is expensive. I was wondering if anyone has used it and can compare it to the PFC01 or PFC06??

A couple obsessions ago I was trying out different brake pads. I went thru some Ferodo 2500’s and 3000’s so fast I couldn’t hardly believe it. Which ever of those are the high bite model, I was on backing plates in 90min. The other lasted a little longer. I’ve read that they were the shit in the 70’s, but so was polyester.

Polyester is still the shit, only now they call it UnderArmour, CoolDry, etc., and charge you triple for it.

The DTC 60s left even more unremovable crud on my wheels than the Blues while braking performance was similar. I must not be testing my blues well enough because I’ve generally been happy with them, although I really liked the Carbotechs but not their price.

I’ve run them (DS 3000). They have good modulation, average bite but wore out very quickly. DS 2500 are their track/street pad. They seem popular in the UK as well as a buddy over there runs them. I run Hawk DTC 60’s on the front with HT-10s on the rear.
