Performance Friction Brake Pads ARE HERE!

#1

Our batch of pads is ready to go! These are the 01 compound - the same ones we use on the World Challenge cars. I had them custom made for E30 fitment - they are the best pads I have used and I thought it was worth the investment to be able to offer them. Modulation and release is superior, meaning you can definitely brake later. May be able to bring to VIR this weekend if interested.

Nice, thanks for another option. What kind of price range are we looking at here? Are the front and rear pads both 01 compound?

Count me in. I need all the braking help I can get as you well know James.

On the BW web site they are listed at 129 for the front, 134 for the rear.

James, how do these compare to a Hawk HT-10? I have heard they are a slight step up.

I have a nother weekend or two on the pads on my HPDE car and will be buying some soon.

Thanks.

Digging one up from the archives…

I am getting the car ready to go - and noticed that we don’t have any spares for pads (I always have a set of fronts and rears, as I suspect most others do also).

I was running HT-10s and Mintex, then HT-10s and HT-10s. So I did a search, but it seems technology on pads marches forward faster than most things, so… if you wouldn’t mind sharing with someone who will be a back marker next year…

What is the setup that seems most balanced? I see HT-10s, PF-01s, and I was interested in if anyone is running the Colbalt XR pads…I was always happy with them on my M3.

What do you suggest?

Thanks!

I ran HT10’s and now am a firm believer and advocate of the PFC 01’s (front and rear). I had problems with the Hawks, which was the impetus for change. The PFC’s feel better to me. Take my midpack advice for what it’s worth.

I have Hawk 10’s front and rear, worked well. I used street Mintex and they lasted just one weekend.

Since James usually knows what he’s talking about, I got a set of the 01 pads late in the season to replace the worn HT-10’s on the car. I think the 01’s are a bit more linear and have a better pedal feel. I won’t say there’s a huge difference between the HT-10’s and the PFC-01’s, but there’s enough improvement that I’ll continue to use the PFC pads.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I have had (in the past, on a different car) used Cobalt SpecVR pads - but now I see they are all different over there. I was happy with the service I got too (the guy’s name was Andie) - I might give him another try - but curious if anyone has given them a shot? I don’t even know if they make the pads in our fitment.

I also used Ferrodo DS3000s in the past with good luck - but again, on an E46 M3, so a totally different beast. Anyone have experience with Ferrodos? Or Pagid? Or Carbotech? That is one I never tried either. I also suspect that pads are like old friends - you find ones that you can tolerate, and stick with them!

BHP PR1 compound is also an option for the E30. BHP has the world famous Matt Nicholson who left Carbotech.

Sean - do you have a source for these pads, they look very interesting?
Thanks,
Ed

I googled it - never heard of them either - but willing to learn

I’ve used the Carbotech X9s and liked them a lot.

Ed,
Shoot an email to Matt…
mnicholson AT bhpbrakes.com

tell him I referred you. We tested the CR compound on the pace E30 the last 2 NASA weekends and found them excellent for HPDE/TT. They have a 1000 degree operating temp. The PR compound takes more heat…refer here: http://rr-ax.com/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=5857&start=1&highlight=BHP&highlightmode=1

for some independent info.

Thanks Sean, and HNY.

right back at you. See you soon…

The E30 325is that I’m using for HPDEs has E30 M3 brakes and I’m using PFC 01s front and rear. I really like the strong initial bite and ease of modulation. I’ve never had any braking problems with these pads and strongly recommend them. They are more expensive than most other track pads but you get what you pay for, IMHO.
