Out of Class Racing?

#1

Hey guys-

Quick intro, My name is Craig Evans, and I’m a SpecMiata driver (go ahead and insert your Girlie car joke here). I was posting this video on your guy’s site to get the e30 point of view. Take a look and let me know what you think…

Please note that I do not know the other driver involved, nor did I get a chance to talk to him. I was pressed to get out of the track both days and did not have video downloaded. I am not trying to throw anyone under the bus. I may even be in the wrong here. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

i’m not the most experienced racer here but i didn’t see anything particularly troubling, looked like fairly normal multi-class racing and/or traffic. i see worse than that just about every race (maybe not me personally, but someone’s video will show an out of class car being bothersome). for example, this was just last weekend, a gts2 car gets between the current se30 national champ and the former se30 national champ. hilarity ensues.

Hey Miata guy…nice relaxed driving there & light touch with your hands on the wheel. In looking at your clip I would think it is less about out of class racing & probably more about racecraft & lack of awarness of surrounding from the E30 driver. You had probably run a number of corners with the driver in front never looking in his mirrors & maybe even missing passing blue flags…this is something that should be addressed at EVERY drivers mtg. IMO. See the next race.

Here’s some out of class racing with a civic and my sm. My mistake was to not force him out when I get next to him out of the hairpin. If I had he’d a probably backed out and I could complete the pass and get away.

a lot of the drivers in the back of the pack tend to get caught up in the fact that there is another car coming up and forget that its not a competitive car. ask me how i know. that is still no excuse for the line change on saturdays race through 3 and 3a, however on sunday, i did not see any mixed class racing. That being said, mistakes will happen, thats how people learn, as it needs to be expressed more often to all drivers in a clear and concise manner that out of class racing does not benefit anyone. another thought to the front pack miata drivers, even when a car being caught lets a car go through, they rant always going to be able to let a bunch through and do you really want to win on a technicality?

If i had my way, wed all have our own run groups and this wouldn’t be an issue

Girlie car

Haha - one might also point out it’s a proper sports car chassis vs. some 60s era design BMW mess that somehow works mildly better than it should on paper.

I’m not convinced he was actually trying to race you per se - I think he just wasn’t aware…though the Sunday move in T4 was certainly bizarre. I recall the first time I raced a really top notch SM driver, and was pretty astounded at where he could stick that car. I’d recommend just finding him and showing him the video if you get the chance - probably be a good learning experience all around.

Also, kudos too for bringing up the dialog in a positive manner - the more we all understand each other, the better we’ll all get along out there. And honestly, if SM’s and Se30s can’t get along, I don’t know who can…The current Norcal A group is one of the harmonious ones I’ve seen in NASA in recent memory minus the SU’s, Legends, and other interesting racing like vehicles.
