Oktoberfest (2-4Oct) at RA with BMWCCA

Jim Levie, Chuck Taylor and I are signed up to run SE30. This fills a big gap in our calendar so pull up your panties and come play. It’s a little pricey but you get 4 races and >4 1/2hrs of track time. Don’t decide at the last minute because not only does it take a while to get your BMW CR license, assuming you don’t have one, but only the first 64 are guaranteed slots. After that the waiting list has to hit 16 for another race group to be created.

There’s also a BMW CR Comp School and a couple days of DE’s prior, for folks breaking into “The Show”. The BMW school doesn’t require a race prepped car. Potentially adding, to the 13/13 disciplinary procedure, the added penalty of death.

Yep, it would be cool if we can get a decent turnout of SpecE30 cars. As you guys know, SE30 is a recognized class in BMW CCA this year, so we can have a podium of our own instead of finishing midpack or worse with the KP cars.

Kelly Childress will be running it too (he and I are organizers so that’s kind of obvious) but when it’s time to race we’ll put down the clipboards and go for it with the rest of you folks.

I’ll also be sorely disappointed if the Black’s don’t make the tow up from Fla, since they went all the way to WGI last year!

I’m on the fence. I haven’t put the stickers back on and I"m not in a hurry to.

Currently signed up to co-drive brendan’s car.

#4

Indy, if you end up getting a set of the stickers done die-cut, can you think about doing a few extra sets? Bet some of us SpecE30 guys will be needing them.

#5

Yes I’ll keep that in mind and let you guys know.

I have a guy that is working on it and have the .pdfs, etc.

#6

I had the BMWCCA CR decals done in die-cut and it ended up looking pretty good. While I was at it I had the outfit do some die-cut NASA decals too.

The only irksome decal is the Tire Rack windshield banner. I figure I’m just slap that on temporarily with some tape.

Note that there is also a BMWCCA race at Roebling, 2nd week of Dec. That’s the week after RA.

Hmm. So, I have some left over BMW stickers on my doors, but I replaced the numbers with my blue/yellow, is that still acceptable? Plus, I still have KP on the bottom of it, so I’d need to remove them.

I hear it’s a fun weekend though. What do you do to get BMW Comp license?

Oh, and how much is it? It seems you have to be a member to even login and get pricing.

You can use your NASA license as the basis for a BMW CCA provision license, which I understand converts to a regular license once you complete two CCA races. The cost for O’fest is $635. That sounds expensive, but you get a lot of seat time. It can take a month or a bit more to get the license (which I think was $40 or so, so get a move on and apply.

It would be great to have a bunch of Spec E30’s at O’fest.

Just for clarity…you have to have a BMWCCA CR license. You can’t race with your NASA license. What you have to do is apply for a the BMW CR license and cite your NASA license to get you out of the requirement for BMWCCA Comp School.

This process takes a while so if you don’t get to it until Sep, you might not get your license in time to participate.

Yeah, I just filled out the app on their website, but they want a new physical, which is kind of crazy, considering mine is 6 months old. But since it’s on the NASA form it is not acceptable.

Somebody should create a universal license.

You’re right, $635 is pretty darn expensive.

#11

Are you sure they won’t use the NASA form? That’s what I did, although the time lapse between my NASA license app and CCA app was more like 6 weeks, not 6 months. Did you call the CCA office and clarify?

#12

I submitted copies of my NASA medical with my CCA license application and it was accepted. There is a time limit on the medical and mine was within that window. If outside that window, you’d have to get a new medical.

#13

I’ll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. I also need to renew my membership since I let it go due to my lack of participation in anything BMW CCA related.

#14

Yep, that is a lot of coin, but we’re trying to fit in 5 races…Yes, 5 races. 3 for points and 2 for fun. Not definite we can make it work but we’re trying.

Fear not, we’ll be there  Like you said, RA is practically in our backyard compared to Watkins Glen. And besides, someone needs to be the backmarker… we dont have the experience at RA the rest of you SE folks do. One day in 2000 in a rental Toyota Solara 4cyl isn’t what I call quality track time:P

They are about to decide between 1 run group and 2, so if you want in do it now. Otherwise there will be one group and you will be on the outside looking in.

Sounds like fun, but I’ll be in NY @ WGI w/NASA-NE… Race like you were driving a pink car… :silly:

#18

I am trying to fill out the application now. Should I put SE30 as the class I plan to run? SE30 is not on the list of available options.

The website has been tempermental about that. If it’s not available as an option just write it into the paperwork when you send it in.

I’m confused about the SE30 class issue, because it worked for me. You do it where you edit your car information, which is actually not part of event registration.

When you do get into editing car info, the class has a drop-down with a bunch of choices, and SE30 is in the list. If you are seeing the drop-down list I’m speaking of, but SE30 is not one of the choices, that sounds like a bug!
