Oil pan thickness

#1

I want to add a mechanical temp sensor in my oil pan and was wondering if there is enough mass there for me to tap the hole for the sensor fitting. I have the fitting from another application but could purchase the weld in bung if the pan is too thin.

Thanks for the input.

Not answering your question (sorry - don’t know the answer), but I put my sensor in the stock hole on the block, using a filling I bought that allows me to retain the stock idiot light and the aftermarket temp sensor. Don’t remember the name of the place, but if you are interested, I can look it up.

I don’t think there is enough meat on the oil pan to tap, but you might want to look at an adapter I sell that provides standard NPT fittings for oil temperature and pressure senders.

If you’re determined to put on in the pan, I suspect a welded bung is the only viable option.

Is this sandwitch plate legal?? I would love to use it if possible.

I would say so. Aftermarket gauges are allowed, and they have be hooked up somehow to be useful. The plate performs no other function than to mount sender units.

What about the other side of the pan where the level sensor goes? That bit is no longer useful, right?
