I changed the oil along with a new the pan. Got the car back toghether after almost a year of sitting around. I Drove the car Friday for a total of 1 hour. Sunday the Oil light comes on. I checked the oil it’s between the two lines. I noticed some oil blowback in the big rubber boot going to the intake. Not a film but a small puddle. I also noticed this before I took the oil pan off in the big boot. I thought well its been sitting for months. Tonight I added some oil, brought it up a little. The light is still on. I pulled all the plugs, no oil on the plugs. I read the posts here about oil blowback. I have not noticed any blue exhaust smoke. The engine has 123k. The light should not be on. Any idea’s?
Oil light won't go out.
Check the pressure sensor itself. They will sometimes get a hole in them, Oil will flow straight through and not regisiter pressure anymore. You’ll see oil weeping out of the sensor. The sensors are like 8-12 bucks (super cheap part). The light comes on at something silly low like 8psi so if the engine still runs you probably have some pressure.
ok, so you’re talking about the oil level light on the Check Control panel, not the oil pressure light on the dashboard. I had a quick read through the E30 Owner’s Manual and looked at the ETM. When the oil level light comes on, it will stay on until it sees that the oil has been topped up. So, if you have added oil (maybe add more?), then perhaps the switch that detects the refill is defective.

Thanks Bruce, that’s most likely the problem that the sensor is defective. The dipstick doesnt lie.
