It was a good, solid, and simple car so I hate to see it die. Interestingly, it needed new paint, and the graphics were getting a bit frayed at the edges. The left side door and rear quarter had gotten dinged up as well so the body needed some fairly serious attention.

Regardless, we’ll swap the good parts and the drivetrain to the spare car and we’ll be back for the Feb VIR weekend.

And yes, it will definitely be yellow.

While we all have a few things we might have done differently, had we built the car again, I can’t think of any major part that I’ll do differently. And to those building your first race car, definitely talk to the veterans, if you have any questions. This new car will be the 5th build for me and while it certainly won’t be perfect, like everything, they seem to get better each time.

Are you going with a full weld in cage this time?

#23

Carter - glad you are OK. Looked like you hit as hard as I did at MO - maybe harder. I wasn’t sore until 3-4 days later, but as you mentioned the safety equipment did its job. My car is being repaired. I had to buy a spare car and not sure if will have to do an entire swap or just the entire front clip. Good luck getting it all sorted out this winter.

I have heard guys say that it’s crazy to race with a bolt-in but I have never heard of someone getting seriously hurt or killed, while racing with a bolt-in, when a weld-in would have saved them. The Autopower cage is very strong and my crash never got to the cage. The NASA Mid Atlantic Tech guy Richard has been around racing for many years and he spent some time looking at the car and the cage. After his thorough inspection, he said it looks fine.

And it would be a shame to scrap this cage when there is nothing wrong with it. I had NASCAR-type door bars added so those will have to be redone. But that won’t cost too much.

And considering the $6,000.00 I spent today on braces for my daughter…

For sure, a good weld-in cage is better. No question about it.

And I’ll check with some local cage guys but I might end up with this same cage in the new car.

Just catching up to this thread. Really sorry to see your car get destroyed, but it did it’s job and protected you, as it should. Glad to hear you’ve got a rebuild plan ready to put into place, and will definitely keep you from being bored this winter.

It’s good to hear that you’re also on the path to getting back to the track. Any idea on when you’ll have it done?

I still feel fine - three days later and I hope I don’t get sore in the next few days. Two friends and I are cycling to the beach Thursday and Friday and being sore from a crash won’t help with that little adventure.

:S

Any chance of you and/or Mike being at the Summit weekend in November? I’ll be there for sure, to do the Regional Series Director thing and to congratulate the Mid Atlantic Spec E30 Champion at the Awards Banquent Saturday night.

I think our racing budget is about done for '08. We plan to do some practicing at VIR in Dec (Chin Motorsports event). I told my body guy that there was no rush on the car so I don’t think it will be done until sometime mid Nov. hopefully saving me a few bucks. We will be ready in Feb however. See you then.

Carter, glad to hear you’re okay.

Mine wasnt (isnt) nearly that banged up. The front end was bent about 1/2 an inch toward the passenger side, the rest was (is) cosmetic. I had the front straigtened and slapped some new (used) front fenders on it and its back to racing!

I have no plans to fix the cosmetic damage. It looks cool and chicks dig it!

Wow Carter glad to see you’re ok, too bad about the car it was one of my favorites.

That’s cool.

Mine is tweaked at both ends so a new tub will be easier and less costly I’m sure.

I couldn’t tell through the dust cloud in Robert’s video, but that looked like it was gonna be a rough hit. Glad you are OK.

Good luck with the build this winter!

Are you sure? Its a perfect opportunity to jump on the Spec3 bandwagon… :stuck_out_tongue:

Spec3 is too high-dollar for me!

And I just love our bread vans.

I hope to make it up to VIR. It will have been a year, so you will have to let me follow you around so I can remember which way the track goes!
