not your mother's spec e30 suspension ...

#1

this came from the M3 SIG list - some nice suspension eye-candy.
Getting seduced by this slippery slope is why I’m building a spec e30!

Hi all, suspension pieces are done. Thought you like to see some more
pics. This is late DTM92 style. It does not get any better than this
for our type of suspension, except perhaps to change your struts to
the DTM magnesium style housings (which is possible, but not without
consequence for other systems e.g. race ABS or what not).
It is the ultimate in light weight suspension, full geometry adjustability,
steering precision and stiffness. This suspension will work on e30 and
e36 chassis race cars and even some E46 cars have used DTM struts and
suspension (see GTR class cars here in Germany).
These are used successfully on championship winning
rally cars under adverse conditions and they survive 24h Nuerburgring
races and even some front shunts without incident.

version that bolts into bottom of STOCK front subframe (for those
who do not want a custom subframe):

version with raised inner control arm pickup point (modified subframe
for the optimal control arm geometry for lowered cars. you dont have
to run such large spacers at the outer control arm pickup and it will
fit your rims easier):

Please note that the control arms are SIDE specific – in contrast
to some earlier setups which try to be universal meaning that they
try to fit them to both sides (which is not optimal).

BTW, have started work on the late DTM92 style monocoque rear
trailing arms, the last iteration BMW did. If youve not seen these
have a look at the FIA homologation papers, they are some of the coolest
parts you will ever see for our cars. you will see a picture near
the end — (before the Gr. N parts are listed).

I contacted some older engineers at BMW motorsport and they referred me
to the people who did the original work, which is nice as we have their
engineering work to fall back on.

while I was at it, there will be a raised differential rear subframe
as well. I was strongly recommended to do this.
