NorCal Spec E30 NEWS

#1

I have been working VERY hard to get the SpecE30 class off the ground in this area. I scan Craigslist almost everyday for donor cars and have picked up at least 3 and passed them off to people that are prepping them to race. It seems that the past years hard work is finally paying off. We have quite a few cars being built and more people interested due to class consolidaiton within NASA.

I have some good news to share with regards to the SpecE30 scene here in Northern California. In order to better support the local racers I have registered www.norcalspece30.com. Scott Neville is the webmaster and will be the focal point for news and content for the site. With the recent demise of NASA’s GTI cup we may see an influx of new faces into the group, Scott being one of them.

Cagework:
VMWERKS has partnered with Evil Genius Racing (EGR) in Davis California to build cages in 3 different stages:

~Stage 1 bent tube kit with plates: you supply the welding skills and the “straight tubes.
~Stage 2 complete pre-bent cage with plates ready to weld: you supply the welding skills but all parts are included
~Stage 3 complete cage welded in and ready to go: you supply the money and the car

The estimated cost for the full cage installed ready to go will run between $1400 and $1600 depending on options. John at EGR is going to meet with a few of us to go over options and come up with a needs list for the cage. The VMWERKS E30 will be there in a few days so we can use it for ideas etc.

Brakes:
VMWERKS and EGR are Porterfield dealers and will be supplying Porterfield RT43’s for endurance, Hawk blues and blacks for sprint racing. Pricing for E30 applications are really good, I will have more news on that front in a week or so.

Wheels:
There is a new wheel that will be available from us in March. It is a 15x7 4x100 14.9lb wheel legal for SpecE30 that is basically a Panasport / Minilite copy. I have a few sets on order, retail is $175, and racer net will be $150 each. They will be available in bright silver and gunmetal.

Springs:
VMWERKS has 9 sets of H&R race springs in stock price is $319 plus tax

Camber plates:
We are co-developing a camber plate with Vorshlag (ex-MotorForce). There are some shortcomings with the current offerings and we are trying to resolve some outstanding issues. Look for them in a month or so…

Website content:
For the website am collecting head shots and a photos of the cars, in whatever stage of build it is in. Please send a little text about yourself and the car with any sponsor shout outs etc. Funny anecdotes about how you got the car or whatever you want under your profile page. An example of the profile page is here:

If you know of ANYONE else building a car and you think they would like to receive news / updates etc let me know and I can add them to the list. Along with the website we will have individual user galleries, personal email address’s i.e. (scott.neville(at)norcalspece30.com). If there is any content you would like to see like DIY’s, FAQ’s etc. let Scott know at his NorCalspece30 address.

it is exciting to read about all those developments - thanks for your hard work Walter.

Personally, I would have preferred all the spec e30 related stuff to remain under this site since it is easy to scan for "New Posts". Maybe it is time for regional sub-forums on this site?
cheers,
bruce

The norcal site is meant to encourage local people to enter the fray. I have participated on this site in the past and it seemed that there was alot of stuff going on everywhere except the west coast. Earlier I had announced support for local Spec racers and a few people came forward. It looked as if we needed a real kick start out here to get the class going.
Scott Neville was instrumental in getting and keeping the Norcal GTI cup scene revived and alive until NASA got rid of it this year. He volunteered his time and the idea for a website to provide some direction for local racers. We do not plan to have a forum on the website since there is a good one already alive and well here.
