So I have my NASA and SpecE30 patches ready to get sown onto my suit. The question becomes can I use regular thread or do I need to purchase Nomex thread which is sold by a few online racing sites like Pegasus.

I’ve done both. If you take your suit to someone that does uniforms, they’ll have nomex thread because they do uniforms for firecrews.
I’m not sure how important this really is tho. I’ve yet to hear anyone tell a story like “there I was ON FIRE. And the non-nomex thread on my NASA patch started burning. AND THE NEXT THING I KNEW MY NASA PATCH FELL CLEAN OFF. YES IT FELL CLEAN OFF!!”

I doubt the patches are made with nomex thread so I wouldn’t be too worried about not using… If your NASA patch does fall off in a fire and you so happen to beat me, I’ll protest you and you’ll get DQd.

Just don’t go through more than the top layer of the suit and you should have nothing to worry about.
