No fluid from clutch?

#1

I just put on new pads and rotors, so after bleeding the brakes I figured I might as well bleed the clutch. The brakes bled just fine, but when the clutch was pumped up, no fluid came out of the slave cylinder. I even removed the bleeder valve completely thinking it might be clogged, but there was nothing. Is my slave cylinder dead? Any suggestions?

Did you hold the clutch pedal to the floor before opening the bleeder valve?

#3

make sure there is enough fluid in the resevoir. I usually just gravity bleed the slave cylinder…let 'er drip

Yup, my brother was holding the clutch to the floor and the reservoir was full.

You can try forcing fluid up through the slave. We’ve used a large syringe with a small rubber tube to push fluid through the bleed screw up to the reservoir. Jst make sure your reservoir isn’t full. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I did a little digging and two things were suggested:

  1. stick a paper clip in the bleeder valve area (with the valve itself out) and dig around a little, there may be rust stuck in there.
  2. Flip it upside down to get the bubbles out. They won’t come out normally since the valve is pointing down? Or use a power bleeder. I opted to buy the power bleeder :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll try that next weekend I guess. Let me know if you guys think of anything else.

Phil - if it’s that gunked up, you might want to buy a new one! I replaced the clutch slaves on my Triumphs every 2 years.
