New Ridgid Impact Driver :-)

#1

Group,

Went to Home Depot to return some items and parused the tool isle and found a pretty good deal (in my humble opinion).

They are selling a 14.4 volt Ridgid cordless impact driver (1400 in/lbs), a 14.4 volt cordless drill, two 14.4 volt batteries, and a charger for 199.00.

I do not know how this compares to the Snap-on ones, but I did not think I could go wrong for this combo, since the impact driver alone was 179.00.

Also, Ridgid is offering a lifetime service guarantee on all their tools.

Just be mindful that an impact driver is not the same as an impact wrench. Hold onto that sucker tight.

Also, it is not as powerful as the Snap-on I do not to buy. I like it, but as always, you get what you pay for.

The impacts from an impact wrench are very short and fast. You can hold the wrench with two fingers and it will still hammer away at the fastener without ill effect on you.

I don’t know how an impact driver works, but the net effect is that it works against the wrench. It imparts torque on the wrench as it tries to work on the fastener. If you don’t hold on tight it can come right out of your hand. I heard of one guy that didn’t hold on tight enough and the driver came out of his hand, spun around, and hit him in the face hard enough to crack bone and require stitches.
