New ride

New tow vehicle. Just picked it up an hour ago for $1500 under trade in value.

Drives much nicer then my POS '99 Dodge Ram. Has 4 doors so getting the kids in/out won’t annoy me constantly. Also much easier to put stuff in the back seat on race weekends. Lariat, leather, and an unused tow package. I’ve never had a white car before so I’ll just have to get used to that.

This would bother me a little bit. What’s the max tow rating for that new ride?

7800lbs with the 5.4l engine and 3.55 rear end. The 3.73 rear end provides a 8800lb tow rating, but I’ll get better gas mileage with the 3.55. My trailer is only 14’ long so I figure that I pull <5000 lbs.

Apparently a couple years ago SAE revised towing ratings such that in '07 or '08 tow ratings went up by about a 1000lbs even tho truck designs weren’t changed. Of course the '06 specs were already published by then so didn’t get the benefit of rating inflation.

Re. New A/C. What, you don’t like new things? Luddite?

I tow with an '04 F150 SuperCrew. Hardly know the trailer is back there and it’s a great road vehicle. We actually use the truck as our road trip vehicle instead of my wife’s 325i.

If you take care of them, the F150s are somewhat bulletproof. In your case, stay away from the engine… leave those shenanigans to the e30!

I don’t like major systems like A/C failing and having to be replaced with around 100,000 miles. Hope they did a good job replacing it and getting it recharged.

It was a chick selling the car. I found the receipt for the AC work a little bit ago. “New AC” turns out to be “New AC switch”. lol.

Congrats Scott. That is my target truck. F-150.
