Need a Herrington Update

#1

David, saw a brief comment on Robin Miller’s Speed update on IndyCar and Indy Lights spring training, to the effect that Daniel hit the wall (thankfully w/o injury). Can you give inquiring minds an update on his career progress? Indy Lights? Pretty cool!

Daniel Herrington escaped injury after making contact with the SAFER Barrier in Turn 2 with the rear of the Bryan Herta entry.

Edit: Found this press release on the Bryan Herta Racing website: http://www.bryanhertaautosport.com/pdfs/BHA_release_final.pdf

Glad he found a ride for the whole season. He has always shown a lot of talent.

Love the fact that it mentions Spec e30 in the press release…

I hope Daniel whoops some butt this year

Here’s the update on Daniel

He has signed for a full (sponsored) season with Bryan Herta’s new Indy Lights team which operates in collaboration with the Vision IndyCar team owned by Tony George. The team is staffed almost exclusively with IndyCar veterans including Steve Newey who has many years as an Indy Car engineer, and Bryan Herta who is a former IndyCar and ALMS star. The opportunity to work with all these incredibly experienced people is a fantastic learning opportunity for Daniel.

So far he has had 3 tests with the team. Two private test days (Phoenix and Moroso) and two days as part of the first official IRL test in Miami. The two road course tests went extremely well. The team learned alot about the car set-up in anticipation of the first two races that are street courses (St. Pete, and Long Beach). There were a couple of other teams with good drivers and the team was very happy with the times that Daniel posted.

The Miami test was another matter. They struggled with the setup and a mysterious mechanical problem that left the car very unsettled on entry to turns 1 and 3 for two solid days. Near the end of the second day they put an entirely different set up on the car and after on pretty major ride height adjustment Daniel could not catch an entry oversteer moment and the car grazed the wall on exit of turn 2. The only damage to the car was to the corner of the right rear wing endplate. I guess the media was desperate for something exciting to write about.

He has two more tests Barber, Sebring)before the first race in St Pete and a small matter of preparing for finals which are inconveniently scheduled to occur around the same time as the season opener. He is also looking for additional sponsorship in order to bring Ross Bentley on board as a coach for the season.

If anyone is planning to attend any of the IRL events give me a shout and perhaps we can meet in the paddock and we can show you around abit.

Richmond???

Serious bullring for IRL cars, been to the last 3 or 4.

Indy Lights don’t race that weekend - too much of a crash fest, but Daniel may still be there anyway. Check with me if you decide to go.

John & I are planning to be at St. Pete - it would be great to catch up with more SpecE30 folks  We live just north of the Clearwater & St Pete area, we’d be crazy to miss it. I bet we could twist Don Stevens’s arm too.

I used to live in Ft Laud, and the Champ car spring training at Homestead was always a treat. I’m jealous that you live near an Indycar venue.
