NASA-SE: Fall Fling, September 13-15, Road Atlanta

#1

NASA-SE proudly presents the annual Fall Fling at Road Atlanta in Winder, GA on September 13-15, 2013. This will be a fun filled event that promises to exceed all previous levels of NASA-SE quality events. We will have our normal schedule starting on Friday and continuing through out the weekend. This event includes:

High Performance Driver’s Education (HPDE) - drivers of all makes and models of cars can sign up and begin at the novice level (HPDE 1) and work their way to advanced driving skills. All drivers start with classroom instruction as well as an in-car instructor to guide you to drive your car at the limits. All of this takes place with the safety of a racetrack under controlled conditions.

Time Trials (TT) - Drivers will compete for their fastest lap times and win all types of contingency money and prizes. The beauty of TT is the fact that you can do all of this with only your street car and a helmet!

Sprint Races - All of the standard NASA classes will be participating, 944Spec, SpecBoxter, American Iron(AI), Factory Five Racing (FFR), German Touring Series (GTS), Honda Challenge(HC), Performance Touring(PT), SpecE30, SpecMiata, Super Unlimited(SU), Super Touring(ST), Thunder Roadster, etc. Cars will be split up into groups and the racing will be intense to watch and participate in!

“6 Hour Affair” Endurance Race - All of the standard NASA Enduro classes will be participating. We are excited about this Endurance race, we promise it’ll be a clean race with lots of great racing and no BS like you get on other Endurance Racing! We have awesome schwag to give away for all who participate in “the Affair”.

Okay everyone… Time for the race reports!

Well, I would say that overall my weekend could have been better but I still had a blast.

Saturday was an awesome race. I qualified 7th out of 20 (I believe that’s correct) so I was super excited. I was hopeful to maintain that position and had some great battles during the race. Due to some contact between and E30 and a SpecMiata on the second lap, I went down a few positions and spent the remained of the race trying to make that ground back up. I think I have a total of 4 spins in front of me that I was able to avoid. I had a blast and had a great time maneuvering through traffic! I was able to finish 7th in SpecE30.

I didn’t do as well at qualifying on Sunday and came in too early so I qualified around 13th or so for the start of the race. It was a pretty uneventful race for me until seeing my dad (Robert Patton) with a crunched up car at 10A. I can honestly say after that I just wanted to see that white flag. If I counted correct I brought home 10th place yesterday, but honestly haven’t see the results for Sunday. I’m hoping for 10th so I can bring home some Toyo Bucks.

If I could ever figure out my video camera and such I’ll post some video.

Total loss.

Stupid in many ways. I’m so tired of stupid. I’ll see if the video works later.

Congratulations to Ryan and Julio for the 1-2 and 2-1 finishes on Sunday/ Saturday . They were the class of the field also in qualifing with the same 1-2 positions.

The rest of us were just driving around for the coveted 6th place t-shirt, of which will reappear at the next event.

It was a little rough/stupid out there on Sunday, but glad to see you are OK Patton!
