hi everyone! i’m rather new to nasa (just got back from my first event with nasa-ma) and racing (no experience except two pitiful lemons attempts), just bought a se30 car and am trying to determine the best way to get started. looks like comp school is being offered at turkey trot, would this be a good time to attend and get the ball rolling? would i actually be racing that weekend, or at the next event? with the enduros i’m wondering if things will be run differently. i feel like i’m overlooking or ignorant of a whole bunch of details regarding this process, thanks for any help y’all can provide.

First HPDE event with NASA at MA? First HPDE event ever?
Or, first race event with NASA that happened to be with the MA guys?
Big difference and if your race experience is only the Lemons races…
Need more complete information before the group can offer advise.
Regards, Robert Patton

sorry, my first event with nasa. i’ve attended DEs with several other groups (bmwcca, trackdaze, mazda drivers, etc) but i’d never run with nasa until this weekend. did the level 1 and 2 instructor school, then drove hpde4 and instructed a hdpe2 student. hung out quite a bit with jeff and tom hall, incredibly nice fellas.
other than lemons i’ve not done any w2w racing, although i did a chuck hawks thingy earlier this year, and bwmcca comp school in july. very much looking forward to getting some seat time in the new car, i’m picking it up on fri and heading to cmp for a thscc event.
Contact Jim Pantas (WildHorses Racing) via the NASA-Southeast website and talk to him about attending comp school at CMP. If he greenlights it and you complete it successfully then you can race at RA.
It used to be that Comp School could be done on Friday and then you could do the Friday enduro and race the sprints on Sat/Sun. But it looks like Comp School has gone to more involved a Sat and Sunday format so they could spend more time with Miata drivers.
Welcome. NC has a huge SE30 communiy of both MA and SE guys. MA puts on a great comp school if you can wait til february. The BMW CCA school could probably get you a nasa license by itself, but nasa comp school will make sure you are ready to race. Mind if I ask where you got the car??
i briefly talked with cobetto this weekend, he said that the bmwcca school by itself is not adequate, despite the fact that it’s a two day class. if i had done some bmwcca racing then i’d probably qualify, but i haven’t. so unless mister pantas has a different view it’s off to nasa school for me.
the car was built by billy revis, a fellow in chapel hill ordered it but his priorities shifted a bit before it was finished so he put it up for sale. it’s never been run except for a couple of break in sessions, and almost everything on it is new so hopefully reliability won’t be a serious problem. please don’t hate me!

my last track car had 23 coolant hoses, i lost two track weekends this year due to them breaking. reliability is relative.
btw, if/when i do join the club you have to promise me that you’ll keep your sig

When the day comes that you have to remove your head, you can pare your coolant hoses down to 4 I think. That was one of the interesting things the veterans showed me when I was serialy replacing engines.
Ask about the signature at CMP after the beer starts flowing. The sig is likely to be around for a while. I’d have to work pretty hard to create a larger cock-up then the Roebling Road Tower adventure.
