My weak junkyard motor at CMP in Feb was not a 2.5

After the Molitor adventure I bought a 100k mi. motor from Strictly German. That’s what we put in my car at CMP. But sadly it turned out to be kinda weak. After doing some compression and leakdown tests on it, I bought a new head.

I sent my Strictly German head in to reclaim the “core charge”. The shop that made my head just called me back and said “Hey, this isn’t a 325 head. This is a POS 323 head”. Apparently the 323 head only flows about 82% what the 325 head does, and was sold for a while as a cheap alternative. Now how 'bout that shit?

Hang on to the 323 head if you can, they are a bolt-on hot setup for ETA engines and can be worth a good bit of $$.

Stuff happens.

I could tell you a long story, but I type 5 words per minute. You can compare the intake passages with the two-finger-in test.

Let’s just say that I did that for two years in my early days.Yes, you are slow, but it makes one really focus on the driving.

$200 shipped and it’s yours.

Remind me to avoid you and Robinson during thunderstorms. Good grief! They didn’t sell 323s on this side of the pond, did they?

I had one when I was stationed in Germany. On my website there is a story about Beemer2 where I screwing around in the snow with an open diff and I ended up hitting the commanding general and his wife. That was the 323. But I was told that no, the 323 was never officially imported here. I guess some of the heads were sold here as cheap 325 alternatives.

Ranger - I’ve not met you yet, so I don’t want you to take this the wrong way.

Who needs sitcom hour on TV? Lately, I spend most of my time just reading your posts! It’s like the neverending story.

Couldn’t be farther from the truth. A soap opera is nothing but petty bickering. Now “Band of Brothers” wouldn’t be a bad comparison.

Dale Dye will play my role.

There’s no petty bickering in SpecE30, right?

Petty Bickering, No! But it is a pretty rough crowd. So a thick skin and good sense of humor goes a long way.

After this is done, You won’t be able to blame the engine…

The E30 323i (M20B23) works a treat on 325e (M20B27) bottom ends, so long as you port it out, fit 325i (M20B25) spec valves, camshaft, intake manifold and throttle body.

Check out what they do in Europe, they get really good power…

I read an article about that combo recently. HP #'s approaching 200 as I recall.
