My Spec e30 build Report

#1

After spending countless hours lurking and making a few comments here and there, I figured it’s about time I made an official "My Spec e30 build" post.

Less 2 months ago I purchased a bone stock 88 325is with less than 100k on the clock. As much as I wanted to find something slightly prepared… I couldn’t resist starting from scratch with a car that has never been on track.

Here’s what’s been installed/done so far: 4 point roll bar, 6 point harnesses, fixed back seats, H&R race springs, Bilstein sport shocks, control arms, derlin control arm bushings, IE camber plates, IE RSM’s, interior gutted, a set of Ra-1’s mounted on bottle caps and a few other bits and pieces.

It will not be a fully prepared race car until this winter, but it’s well on its way. Next weekend (VIR with BMW CCA) will be my first on track test.

As you can imagine, I’m looking forward to reporting back…

Congratulations! Sounds like you are well on your way. I was in your same situation in this past January and I am now 95% finished with my car. As much as I enjoy wrenching on my own car and having the satisfaction of doing the job myself, I don’t think that I would do it again. Without question it is cheaper to buy a race ready prepped car even taking into consideration the free labor of doing the work yourself. Not to mention the countless hours under the car while enduring the sideways glances from my wife. I’m just glad its done and can’t wait until the comp school at VIR later this month so I can start racing (assuming I pass).

I am on the wait list for the BMW CCA event at VIR this weekend. I hope I get in and look forward to seeing some you all.

JP,

I am losing hope that I’ll get a spot. I have emailed Sandra weekly to check and its not looking very promising. But if I do get a spot you will surely see me in my freshly painted Inka Orange car. Hope to see you guys there.

Team BeerTech is well on its way to becoming a real race team…And by real…I mean real SLOW.
