So I was doing a small track day at Govt contractor’s test track and apparently my car was ticking so bad I got flagged down. Everything sounded fine to me in the car, good oil pressure, water temps, good power, etc.
I started to freak out. So I pulled the valve cover and found my valves were all too tight. I kinda half assed re-adjusted them and it was still noisy. Everyone thought it was “knocking” but the sound was coming from right under the valve cover. So, I just finished re-adjusting them again, and to me it sounds ok. Noisy yes, but thats to be expected. There is a some sort of louder “knocking” sound right around 3k, but it goes away and I never pay it any attention. Again it’s not rod knock just something in the head.
I was passing the person in question while they were attempting to pull out a stuck car out of the grass, so maybe thats what he heard. At WOT and race speed everything sounds normal.
Am I worrying too much? Im hoping the out of adjustment rockers were causing some extra noise.
