My New Paint Job

#1

Well after reading Scott’s wrecked car thread and Jim’s tornado thread, I figure we can use a happy thread, and I have to share my excitement. I finally got that ugly aftermarket gold paint off my Bronzit car and got it painted in my favorite color, blue. I sure hope I can keep it looking this nice for awhile. I plan to get it decaled for TTE and SpecE30 just before the next Mid South event at Talladega once the paint cures some. It turned out decent for a $600 base clear job with $300 body work to fix my spoiler, fill the antenna hole, and body work the welded in panel for the sunroof. I washed the car for the first time and spent quite a while trying to get the wheels back to respectable after not washing them for 7 track weekends. Here are the end results:

Looks great Chris

It looks terrific. Nice price too.

I hate to be such a wet blanket today, but the best you can hope for is death by papercuts. That is to say, with each race the car is going to get a bit more sand blasted, a tire rub here, a little white paint on a fender there, and each one is going to hurt.

All you can do is absorb the blows to your pride and joy, continue to wax it before each race, and ride it out with a smile on your face and hope for the best.

Put some clear or black vinyl on all surfaces that are going to get sandblasted. That means leading and trailing 2" of the hood, leading 2" of front fenders, the strip of sheet metal just above the bumper, and the sheetmetal just forward of each wheel.

Ranger is right. He forgot to mention all the rubbing, small taps, and big taps that go along with close W2W racing. I found some pics of my car after I first built it in '07. It was nice and shinny and straight. Now there is not a fender, door or quarter panel that is not wrinkled a little. I did some work of the past few weeks on fixing some of it but it would be way to time consuming to get it back to wrinkle free again. The good news is that the hood and trunk are fine for now.

Looks good Chris.

looks great. I remember when the 113 had not a scratch or blemish, then I started racing and it became a specE30. Come on out for the fun.

:woohoo: Blue Cars RULE!

Thanks for the comments guys. I can’t wait to get the decals on it. I wish there were some Southeast comp school dates towards the end of the year.

very nice, looks great, like everybody said to bad it will not last

Looks Good…I’m kind of partial to blue myself too:

The color I had mine painted was a Mopar color called “Lapis Blue”. You see it on Mid-90s Jeep Cherokees and Dodge Neons. Mine turned out a little darker I think.

Is there a specific factory blue color you chose?

Cheers,
Scott

I really like that color!

#13

Not a factory color. He had a book with paint chips, and I brought it out into the light and this was the blue I liked best. It was called “Bright Blue Metallic Pearl”. I figured with metallic and pearl in the name it would have to look good.

#14

Scott you and I need to start a new SE30Blue Only series.

#15

We can call it Spec Smurf!

#16

Nice Chris!

#17

So you are stil alive. When are we gonna see you on track this year? I have been hoping you are just saving for our Sebring trip.

very nice, but i agree the powder coat would be the icing.
