Motor done blowed up

#1

I am up at VIR for Track Daze…I actually paid for 2 days as I am done instructing. the plan was to test out the new Biodiesel e30, well that is still a few weeks away from being ready. I tried to weasel out of this event but no dice. I decided to fix the rocker arm on the red car and bring it for some “testing”. The rocker arm fix went smooth enough. I drive the car to the track for tech and then out to eat and back to the track for a beer. Everything seems fine except I needed to add some water as I had lost a bit during the rocker arm fix. This morning when I drove to the track I was laying down a fogbank, it was rainy, 100% humidity so the steam stayed right on the road. I gave it a few miles to clear but it didnt. The temp gauge has never gone past half. Could there be a crack from a water jacket directly into the combustion chamber? Maybe the block is cracked…has to be related to the rocker somehow.

Now I am at VIR driving an e12 with shitty shocks, short springs and an open diff. It is actrually fun. Sort of.

Water jacket or a head gasket.

Look at the bright side, you can put in a new motor and almost double your horzpowah.

Al, I didn’t know you were here. Look for Mr. Junky (87 325is gray) near the grid exit gate. Maybe you can give me some pointers on how to shave off some time.

I’d say “Heck yeah”…Some of us rookies need a lot of help to be able to run mid pack.

Well, it was going great until this afternoon when VIR did it’s magic. It looks like Mr. Junky has some broken rocker arms…

I’ll have to figure a way to get home. (Last time I was here, I blew my clutch completely.) It’s like De-ja vu all over again.

I have some rocker arms up there…but I am back east… Which one(s) broke?

Don’t know Al.

Just realized how bad the engine was when I started the car to come back to the motel so I just left it at the track.

The last session that I went out, it just felt as though the engine was low on power around 5K rpm toward the end of the session. I thought the engine was just heat soaked.

I am going to try having it towed to JMT today.

James should be able to fix ya up, he has gotten me out of a few messes.

Yee, aka Mr. Junky, would never say it himself because he’s one of those quiet and unassuming types…But he’s pretty damn fast. For example, I’ve seen Roebling data from a lot of folks, but I’ve yet to see a SpecE30 take Roebling’s turn 1 faster then Yee’s Mr. Junky.

Ahh…turn 1 at RR…I am looking forward to running there in Dec with the VDCA, most of the vintage guys toss the anchor for turn 1…

Always watch out for those quiet guys…

Finally made it home at 10:00PM. My wife drove up from Atlanta to pick me up.

Mr. Junky has #2 rocker arm broken. It was the original. Decided to change out all of them at once. Will have to go back up to VIR to pick up the car.

Did manage to cut some time off and I was happy. Then I asked Skeen to drive Mr. Junky with me in it. I realized how far off I am from the limits of the car. Still long ways to go.

Still, it was a great 4 days at my second favorite track.

P.S. - Ranger, you have me confused with someone else. I really do enjoy T1 at RRR but I am nowhere near the front SpecE30 runners.

I’ve gone into RR T1 right behind you at least a dozen times. And I’ve studied data from the front-runners. I stand by what I said.

Mr. Junky is not exactly SpecE30. A real suspension will go a long way. I hope it gets back together without too much trouble CSR, that car was tons of fun to drive. Thanks again!

I hope Mr. Junky will be back on his feet soon.

…and thanks for taking Mr. Junky out for a session. It was a hoot to see what you can do with my own car.

I am traveling right now but when I get back, I am going to see if I can pull your T10 and compare it against my T10.
