More exhaust questions

#1

Since I’m hearing many people state that changing the exhaust brings little (<5hp) or no gain to the car, is there any compelling reason for me to have a custom exhaust installed?? It seems that the HP gain is obtained by CAT removal. So why not just replace the cat with straight pipe and keep the rest stock?

Isn’t this the cheapest way to go?

It’s nice to be able to hear yourself. Listening to engine speed via exhaust note is just another piece of helpful data, so replacing the stock muffler is more than just making noise.

My experience showed that simply removing the cat alone did not yield the HP gains. The stock muffler can be restrictive too.

I suggest you wait until the rules dust settles. Hopefully you will be allowed to build a 2-pipe 2" glasspack system on the cheap like most of the field has.
