mid-ohio memorial day weekend

#1

who will be there, and for what days? i’m planning on sat-sun with bmw and mon-tue with chin. might do the bmw fri as well although i haven’t decided yet. rumor has it a few other southerners will be there too (ranger, al k, alex to name a few).

what’s the camping situation like? is power readily available? showers? wifi? i usually sack out in my truck if conditions permit.

btw this may be a really stupid question but what’s the demarcation between the great lakes and midwest regions?

Al K and I will be there. Fred was talking about it too. I’ll be there Fri-Tue. Not sure if Al will be there for Friday.

#3

I’m local so I’ve not stayed there.
I know people do camp, not sure on fees.
Power, only in the garages afaik
WIfI, tower has it but it’s typically password protected. Garages might have hardline connections (I can’t remember for sure).
Shower yes, but not individual

HTH

Note to self: If you drop the soap, let it go.

#5

I’ll be there for Saturday and Sunday with the CCA. I plan to camp unless Stephanie comes along. Anyone got a generator? I camped (ie slept in my truck) there last month. I don’t think there are in camping fees unless you use the campground are

#6

looking forward to seeing you guys there in a few weeks! i hope all of you are planning to race. it will be cool to have 5-6 SE30s in a BMW Club Race!

Good Question! I don’t know!

Great Lakes was the Indiana/Ohio Region, but we have events in Michigan and Chicago. It’s all the same people running the events. Great Lakes usually stays more east and Midwest more west. As far as SE30, there only at Great Lakes events.

#8

You can camp

No, unless you get a garage.

Yes

No

Will be fine

Great Lakes is mostly IN & OH. Midwest is MO,IA,WI,IL and maybe a few others. MI has events in both regions. Some events are crossover events that cover both regions, Autbahn, Putnam and Road America. Crystal?
All the spec E30 racers are in the Great Lakes region but that doesn’t mean you can’t run SE30 in the midwest you would just likely be the only car unless it was a crossover event.

#9

As far as camping goes. You need to check with the event organizers. NASA pays Mid-O for 24 hour security therefore we can camp. I have been to many CCA events where camping was not allowed.

#10

I have some friends who are instructing the DE and are coaxing me to go. I am not BMWCCA licensed yet so I can’t race but I am on the fence about doing the DE. My race budget is tight and doing this DE might mean missing a NASA race later… I would love to do it but it really doesn’t make alot of sense. I just hate having the car sit until the July NASA race tho.

#11

I seem to recall camping was not allowed last year at this event, I’d check with the buckeye chapter folks.

#12

ohiobimmer.

you can apply for a bmw cca license using your nasa license. just send the forms and payment in.

#13

Are we required to comply with NASA spec E30 rules at this event? I only ask because I have some less sticky rubbers to consume and would like to save my RA1s if possible.

#14

If you classify as SE30, I’d expect the spec tire rule applies. If you classify as KP, you can run whatever you brung. Although I really doubt anyone would protest you if you ran slower tires

#15

RA1s it is then…

Thanks Kish. In the Club Race School Fran Hughes mentioned that it typically takes 4-6 weeks to process a BMWCCA race license. Since I was on the fence about doing the event I haven’t sent my paperwork in yet.

BTW, I have done many NOCBMW events including the Memorial Day event and do not recall camping being allowed at any of them.

#17

jamie, send it in and let them know you want to race, i’m sure they’ll speed things up. You can call Fran or Trisha at National and discuss if you really want to do it. contact details are here: http://www.bmwccaclubracing.com/Information/ContactUs.aspx

#18

So, what’s the word on camping? I was planning on staying in the trailer!

#19

email harvey rogers (harvbmw@aol.com) and check on camping. pretty sure it’s not allowed for this event. I just booked a room at the Quality Inn in Bellville which is where a bunch of us usually stay. They still had a few rooms available. Hope to see a good SE30 turnout for this event!

What about tech inspections? Is our Nasa sticker/inspection good enough?
