Here is a quick vid of our 2nd simulated race at SuperComp school on VIR North a few weeks ago. You can’t see him in this vid, but fellow E30 driver Ken "ScrewyNewy" starts right next to me on the grid.
SuperComp school was so significant that I really felt it deserved some attention here in the Preparing to Participate forum.
Special thanks to Chris C., Brain, and Carter for making this school almost perfectly-suited to new E30 racers.

Matt,
Great driving! Thanks for including my in your write-up and for not saying where I finished the race. I actually had fuel starvation and had to pit after 4 laps…that’s why you didn’t lap me
Yes, good driving Matt.
Also, how does the camera stay so smooth, yet moves slightly to give such a good impression of the movement of the car?
I had my old VHS-C camera in the car at Road Atl this weekend and while it’s not very smooth (still beefing-up the OG mount), I’d like to post it. But how can I get it to digital? Do local video companies do the conversion and what do I convert it to?
Thanks,
Carter

Carter,
I don’t know which camera Matt is using but mine is a digital MiniDV camera and it also has an image stabilization feature that really smooths out the quality of video. They are not all that expensive either. I bought a factory refurbished Sony for $250 from Ubid.com

Hi Carter:
My Sonycam has that "SteadyShot" feature that essentially allows the lens to "float" independently of the cam body. Incidentally, I was disappointed because I felt like SteadyShot removed the realism of driving the car at race-pace, so I switched it off for the race I ran at LRP the following week. I like those cam results better, but don’t have them up on the web yet.

I’m sorry I can’t be too much help with this one. Mine’s also MiniDV (as Ken mentioned) and I just use the Windows Movie Maker software that comes with XP to capture/edit it. But I am really a beginner at making digi-movies.
hey Matt, you forgot to thank your Mom&Dad in the video
thanks for taking the time to post it
cheers,
bruce
mrussel does your e30 have a stock motor in it? Great driving I had a blast in my comp school.

Stock motor with factory cats, muffler, and 3.73 LSD. It does, however, have 7K rpm software (although I use a self-imposed redline of 6000 with no traffic and maybe 6500 in "oh shit mode").
