LSD clutch replacement

#1

Does anyone have the write up on replacing the clutches in the LSD anymore? I’m going to tackle this next week and would probably be beneficial to my typical trial and error approach.

Thanks,

Cameron

Hello Cameron,

There is a great write up with pictures on replacing the LSD clutches and further discussion of adding additional clutches as well as lock up ratio’s over on E30 Tech.

Here is the link:

Have Fun and let us know how it goes

Nice to see you spreading your knowledge on this forum Robert. You running a SpecE30 now?

Thanks Robert. I’ll let everyone know how this goes!

Cameron, we did it 2 1/2 seasons ago and it’s not a bad job except for the allen head bolts. I think we are going to be doing it again based on the 45 ft lbs the diff is currently breaking free at now when cold.

If I can find the old Factory 3 write up I’ll send it your way, it’s what we used last time. (no longer in business now)

Take a look at the bearings. Bad clutches would not cause the vibration you were complaining about. Bad clutches would just make more wheel spin in the turns.

#7

Do the diff test outlined in the rules to see if you need new LSD clutches.

#8

I know it’s not the clutches, but I figured I’d do that while I’m in there. I was getting a lot of wheelspin at Grattan.

do the test, it takes 2 minutes
