Loud Valve/rocker Tap with new head

#1

I had my head rebuilt and had a new cam and rockers installed, and all associated machine work.

I got the head on the car and the car runs great but there is a tapping coming from the the head. It just sounds like the valve clearance is out of spec, but I have adjusted it twice and everything seems fine.

Is it because of the new parts? or could there be something else.

I once put a head on not quite square. The result was a ticking noise as one of the pistons just ever so slightly was hitting the head. The cause, other than my own stupidity, was the lack of one of the locating pins that goes between block and head.

Does your noise abate when the car gets warm?

Could the head have been decked too much?

You could try adjusting the valves a smidgen tighter, say .08 and see if that affects the noise.

I do have the locator pins in.

the machine shop said they took a max of .06 out of the head.
I used the same machine shop that Stickley at CSS Motorsports uses. So they are pretty reliable.

I didn’t really let the engine get warm yet, so I dont know if it will go away.
