Loose Brake Fluid Reservoir

#1

I was just doing some pre race checkups and noticed the master cylinder resevoir has some wiggle to it. It will move about .5" on axis either way (one inch in total movement). I had the plastic?/rubber? pieces that go between the resevoir and the master cylinder replaced about three months ago, just curious if this is normal?

It doesn’t fasten to the MC well. IMO they’re all kinda loose. Push it down a little to make sure it’s fully seated.

thanks scott. see you at ra.

Get a really long zip tie and strap the reservoir down to the MC…You can route it in front of the filler cap.

Also, if you haven’t already, you should zip-tie the 3 relays in the housing on the LF fenderwell in place. They have a habit of working loose and killing the car.

(For a very sad example, check out the first NASA Championship SpecE30 championship race…One of the front-runners crapped out early due that very malady)

That’s a good tip. I’m going to do that tonight.

One of these days I’m going to create a place in this forum that is nothing but tips like this. One stop shopping for all the car build lessons learned by the community.

I’ve lost brakes due to a knocked-over cylinder and no zip tie.

Now, speaking from expeience, it is all a part ofthe race prep work one should do. Sounds like a thread we should create forall of the newbys.

I’m going to add all these zip ties when I get home tonight. I knew about the relays, but hadn’t thought about the brake fluid reservoir.

I think the right place for tips like this is the “Getting Started FAQ”.
