Looking to Rent/donate tire $$/Beg/plead...etc.etc

#1

Hey All,

I know this a bit late in the year to ask this but I’m looking to rent a Spec E30 for licencing school and a couple of races before the end of the year.

If the legal implications of the word "Rent" scares you away, lets say - I can donate to the tire fund??? Whatever helps you sleep at night…

Someone in the SE would be preferable but if you’re located elsewhere, but are willing/planning on attending races in the SE and are willing to share/rent a ride - drop me a line…

Disclaimer - Been around racing for quite a looong time now and instruct for DE’s regularly - just don’t have the wheel-to-wheel racing experience.

Not looking to go out and "beat the pants" off others, just want to get the experience under my belt and have a good time.

FWIW - I’ve never put a car in a wall, never had contact and am pretty easy on the equipment.

Anyone willing to share or have an extra car available? Feel free to contact me - 770-297-7058

Spoke to Robert today - he didn’t mention the Taxi so I’m going to assume its been sold… but I did pass the suggestion along via email, just in case - with blame… I mean credit to you for the idea!

Greg, Mark, the taxi is for sale. Sale is the key word. Sorry, no rent to own.

It was listed here for $18K earlier this year.

here’s one worth looking at. but you need to think fast…

Hey guys… is $18K realistic for a spec E30? I’m not really doubting any specific car, but I was under the impression you could get into a very nice one for the 10-12K range. What makes the difference between 10-12 and 18?

#9

you can get into a nice spec e30 car for 10-12k if you do all the labor yourself.

to get a car as nice as paton’s or the dp car that’s track tested and ready to go for 18k… that’s a premium worth paying if you’re just wanting to pick up a car and be ready to be competitive.

ask anyone who’s got a car that they have 10-12k and and they’ll tell you, they also have 100+/- hours in it too.

at $45 an hr. that puts you in the 18k ball park.

#10

Yes those numbers are pretty accurate. Mine is just about finished. I did all the labor myself. I figure at least 200 hours @$50 per hour, so add $10000 to the $11000 build cost and that’s $21,000 for a fully prepped car. So 18K is a pretty good price. You can always negotiate from the asking price.

#11

Bingo on the cost estimates. Robert Patton’s car is a steal at 18K.

#12

That’s using a $50/hour labor rate. I don’t know a shop that will do good work and that works on a BMWs daily for $50/hour. A shop that you would trust your race car with will cost at least $75/hour, probably more, and the price goes up from that.

#13

By Robert’s car, it’s a proven winner and we have built 2 of these in the past year and between my money and Tom’s time, $18k is a slam dunk deal!

#14

My SpecE30 build will be done in the next few days and, knowing what I know now, I would have bought a completed SpecE30 car for 18k in a heartbeat.

#15

Why do we all have to learn the hard way? It can’t be done better than a proven race winner.

Because it seems like less money when it only goes out 1 or 2k at a time, as opposed to 18k all at once.

Thanks all for the kind comments. Bill is correct, it doesn’t seem as much when it goes out of the checkbook 1-2k at a time.

Both cars are for sale at 18k for all new. The price is less if tires, brake pads, rotors are somewhat used.

Wow?

Whoever gets their hands on either of these cars will be a luck SOB.

Both cars? What did I miss? Cop car or 8-ball leaving too?

Hey All,

Thanks for all the input - no takers for my money yet. FWIW - I’m handy with a wrench and know my way around a pit and paddock in a team oriented situation.

Comown - Don’t make me run spec Miata!

Robert - no doubt, purchasing the taxi would be the ideal way to go, but thats a hard figure to slip by the house accountant!

Hey Skeen! - How about whoring your car out  Consider new tires for CMP a down payment?

Someone throw me a bone…
