Looking to join the fold

#1

I’ve been doing DEs for a few years now in a Porsche 944 Turbo. I’ve sold that maintenance hog and starting looking at BMWs and found SpecE30. From a DE standpoint, the car looks like a great learner, and has some pretty descent potential for racing. Watkins Glen is my "home" track, I was wondering if SpecE30 has run there, or will run there in the near future?

BTW, I’ve read quite a bit of this forum and have already found a nearly finished southern 325iS that meets a lot of people’s recommendations.

Thanks!

NASA NE runs the Glen

I let the NE guys comment further but Spec E30 is starting to get going in that region and they do run Watkins Glen.

Hi Greg

I am in a similar situation, but already using an E30.

In October 2 guys raced (Chris McCyntyre and Sean Curran) on a weekend when there was a competing event.

See the following for a feel of what is developing:

My prediction is that we will start to see some growing fields

As everyone has already said, NASA NE runs at the glen. They have a few DE weekends during the year and one race weekend. Hopefully next year, the race weekend won’t be the same as a Mid-Atlantic race and more people will make the trip.

As far as overall numbers go, the NE is fairly small in general so no classes are huge, yet. The various 944 classes usually have the most entrants, but it sounds like you’ve had enough of them  I might be biased, but I would say Spec E30 is the way to go. While we might not have big numbers, it seems like we have more people in the building stage than other classes. By the end of '09, I think we could be the largest class in the NE, partially depends on how many races people will be doing. Even if we don’t become the biggest, we’ll still be the best
