Looking for engine block... or repairable?

#1

I’m guessing this can’t be repaired but what do those in the know say.
So, does anybody have a block you can part with, maybe even with a crankshaft if possible? My crank got cronked in the blowout. At least I don’t think it can be repaired either, but I will post a pic of it too. I plan to rebuild.
thanx,
tom

I might have one. I’m taking stuff to the engine builder this week and they’ll let me know what’s still good. If everything I have is good, I will have parts for you.

PS-where are you? shipping ain’t cheap.

Here’s the crank dmg.

Yeh, shipping wud be a bitch. I’m in West Virginia, but my brother lives in Cary, NC, where I go for visits. I also plan on a trip to VIR this spring so that’s a possibility for anyone with a spare block going there too.

I’m in Northern WV near Wheeling. I’d certainly be willing to travel some for pickup though.

Seth,
You’re awesome. I snatched up that block from D.C. Timing was right.
I live 5 hrs away, but my son attends college in D.C. area. I called the guy 930 this morning, and my son picked it up on way home for Xmas today. It was here 430 p.m.
Thanx for the tip, man.

Tom[/quote]That block came out of a white vert that broke a T belt. It was right around the corner from where I live…anyway check the pistons to see if they were damaged by the valves…

#10

Yeh, the seller told me it came from a T belt break. pistons look OK on cursory look.
Looking forward to digging into it for rebuild. Will be my 1st.
Tom

#11

Tom,

Were you able to reuse the pistons? I just got a block which also came out of a car that broke a timing belt.

TIA

Greg

#12

I haven’t started the rebuild yet, but the pistons look OK in the block I got. Plus, I have 5 extra pistons still good from the block I blew a hole in.
But thanx Greg for offering.

I wasn’t trying to sell you anything. I have a rebuild planned for this block, and was just curious if you were able to reuse yours.

#14

Duh!:S My bad. I just make up stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:
Let me know how your rebuild goes. Good luck.

Will do I just got the thing on the stand this past weekend. Thinking about buying a set of pistons that came out of 88 325is off ebay for $100 auction ends in about 3 hours no bids yet.
