Those of us poor folk who aren’t there want to know!
Let's hear the CMP results!
Great weather, great field size, no significant damage (except Travis and Al’s livers). A great start to the 2011 season!
I hope to have video up tomorrow (since editing race videos is probably not what my wife has in mind for Valentine’s Day). Short report is this: caution-filled races meant we got very few race laps. Johan lost a motor on Friday but ran the Robinson-Belverd rocketship for the sprints. He again was the class of the field. Travis was giving him a pretty good run and I had front row seats to watch that battle.
Sunday looked like a rematch until Johan got bumped to the back for scrubbing tires on the out lap of qualifying. That may be the stupidest rule in all of motor racing. I was able to stay with Travis Sunday by him making a couple more mistakes and me making a couple fewer. We never had a long enough run to really see what might happen…
For those who don’t think Johan has a sense of humor… He came over to the OPM hauler looking to borrow a set of calipers (to measure something illegal on Belverd’s car I’m sure  ) and Fowler said “Steve told us not to give you anything else.” Johan said “Well tell him to stop giving me the corner then.” Bwahahaha. You’ll see what he meant in Turn 11 on the 2nd or 3rd lap of Saturday’s race…
Other highlights: Jones pushing a stroller around the paddock. Al “Where Talent Meets Apathy” Taylor. Tower’s rastafarian-gone-wrong outfit at the Sunday driver’s meeting. Billy Gropp taking a Viper with like 5 miles on the ODO and running it in Thunder.
Billy Gropp taking a Viper with like 5 miles on the ODO and running it in Thunder.
Billy had engine problems with his Viper. The engine problem was going to take a while to resolve so he bought a new one. A new Viper.
He’s planning on doing Viper Challenge this year, which is a lot more fun to watch on tv than Ferrari Challenge. But the new Viper’s going to need some front end work first.
It was terrific to see everyone again. It was a bit chilly at night but once the sun came out in the morning the days were beautiful.
Having lost my Mojo at CMP I qualed somewhere just shy of midpack each day. Saturday had Laura in front of me and Fred behind me. Sunday was the reverse. Both races were ~15min long because of FCY’s and relatively low on excitement. Johan qualed Sunday with a sub 1:51. Amazing. It just kills me that I’m 1 sec off the leaders at RA but 4secs back at CMP.
My engine ran well, which was darn nice to see. This is Chuck Baader’s engine from last year. My oil pressure was fine, indicating that leaky injectors putting fuel in the oil was the likely cause of OP issues over the last couple events.
Of each 35 minute race there was only 8-10 minutes of green flag.
Not much fun when you consider the cost per minute…almost on par with a drag racers cost per minute.

It sounds like CMP was a great time! Sorry I missed it, but glad I got my new motor running over the weekend…
Press release from Scuderia Gonzo Alonzo
For immediate release: It is official, Alonzo Taylor chickens out.
Due to intense compitetion Alonzo Taylor has quit racing in Spec e30. “I figured it made more sense to build a complete new race car than buy new tires for my spec e30…also as Luke Belvard had bought a competitive Spec e30 and decided to run in GTS-1 there would at least be one person I could beat”. As it turns out 2.00 laps would probably not be close to Luke who is more likely to die of carbon monoxide posioning than get beat by Taylor. “Belvard chickened out before I even had a chance, my plan was to shoot him in the nads with a potato gun Friday night but it turns out he is not even going to run GTS-1 this year” The top secret run an “i” air flow motor on an “e” motor and put the stiffest rear springs you can find plan backfired also. The car was painfully slow and managed to spin off track twice coming out of turn 1. This led Taylor to comment “At least I have lots of experience getting stuck in the mud, and was able to get out of the sand and not cause another full course caution”
In actuallity the new car did not cost anything, it had been laying around the SGA headquarters for years when it was pressed into service for the SCCA 13 hour race at VIR last October. “The cost of a new set of tires for Spec e30 equalled just too much gonad draining and mind numbing fun in Amsterdam this coming spring, I just could not justify spending the dough” Taylor is alluding to his upcoming business trip to Europe April 3rd. “I knew enough folks were buying new tires and I would not have a chance…my tires sucked last November and I have no reason to believe they got better sitting out under a tree all winter” The news was out that Travis Wilson had gotten his settlement from the stuffed weasel people and would be on fresh rubber. “I hired Scott McKay to represent me, and he really put the squeze on those bastards” Wilson is refering to the people that sold him an “albino possum” which ended up being a common weasel. “It is hard to put a dollar amount on the pain and suffering” Wilson said, “That is where McKay comes in, he know alot about dollars, pain and suffering”.
In related news from last weekend Johan Schartz is going to give up the karting business to develop and market a product called “The Irish cockring” which is made from a potato.
Do a google search on Al Taylor?
Someone described Al as “the convergence of talent and apathy.”
Now, back to race results.

Business trip to Europe?
That, my friends, is a euphemism of epic proportions.
Like Tiger Woods saying “I’m going to Denny’s for pancakes.” Or Michael Jackson asking his doctor for “A little something to take the edge off.” Oh to be a fly on the wall in whatever non-youth hostel is lucky enough to pry $13 a night out of Al’s travel budget…

Dang how I lost credit for that one-liner in a hurry.
Ranger, I said someone…I didn’t steal it, just couldn’t remember.
Gress gets credit for the one-liner.
Now, back to race results.

Sorry Travis, I’m going to have to disagree about the Sunday one…

good weekend, sorry to see a few cars get banged up but i don’t think any were much more than cosmetic. could have done with a little less yellow and a little more racing but i guess that’s just how it goes some weekends.
speaking of al, i wasn’t the only one happy to share their forward looking fashion sense with steve. check out this winning combo of distressed mock turtleneck, high visibility dome protector, and knockoff gloria vanderbilt shades:
i’ll finish with a few videos showcasing my complete inability to go more than three laps without doing something stupid…

Some more videos for your viewing pleasure.
Saturday - Qualified 4th, Finished 4th. Race cut short due to a lengthy full course caution that never ended.

Sunday - Qualified 6th, Finished 4th. Again, full course yellow flags ruined the race.

How bad is it?
Fender, air dam, bumper parts and add’l sheet metal. I don’t think there’s any structural damage - but I might need to check the alignment.
But to quote the Terminator (*insert Austrian accent here *): “I’ll be back…”
