Leak down/Compression Tests

#1

Just picked up an '89 325is with 300k and burns through oil quite quickly. Reading through these threads it is apparent that I should probably do a leak down and compression test before anything. I scanned through the web and found a kit through summit (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CMB-17-0006). Since I am new to all of this I wanted to ask advice as to if this kit will do the trick or if my money/time is better spent buying a different kit?

Thanks all!

That will work fine.

A compression test is pretty straightforward, even if getting repeatable results can be a little tricky. A leakdown test, however, takes some time because you have to get a handle on how your leakdown tester works. You’ll need a good supply of air too.
