I finally got the car off the jacks and was going to back it out of the driveway and I can’t find reverse. The car is an 87is. I tried bottom right. Top left. Top right. Nothing. Where is it and how do I activate it?

Lamest question ever - where is reverse gear?
Does the shifter need to be pulled up or pushed down or what? I thought I gave it a good slap, but I’ll try again tomorrow.

Neither. Just move the shifter slowly between 1st and 2nd with a little pressure towards the driver side and you’ll find it.

Yep you should feel it when you pull to the left between first and second gear. You could have issues with your shifter though.
