I am about to begin building my roll cage and I would like some help.
I see from the NASA CCR’s that the knee bar is optional. I have also noticed from a few pictures that some people don’t have them. Is it foolish to build a cage without one?

I don’t have a knee bar. I have a dash bar that runs behind the dash.
At my height, a knee bar is an accident waiting to happen.
I do believe that a dash bar, or a bar connecting the front down tubes, is very important. Without it an A pillar impact could just fold up the lower front half of the cage. Also there is the side benefit of increased rigidity.
