Just got a car, have a few questions!

Hi All,

I just bought myself a pretty stock '89 325is with a view to turning it into a Spec E30 racer. I considered buying a race ready car, but I decided I would probably learn more about the sport if I built one up from scratch.

Does anyone know of a good race shop or cage person in the Athens, GA area? I though putting a cage in would probably be the thing to do first. The car seems fairly mechanically sound, so I don’t think I need to do a whole lot of other stuff before I start to take it to the track. Although I think it would probably be a good idea to replace the brakes (at least the pads and fluid) first.

My plan is to get some HPDE time while I steadily prep the car for actually racing. I completed the Skip Barber 3 day racing school at Road Atlanta last month and I am off to Laguna Seca tomorrow for the 2 day advanced school. I’m guessing I could probably do with a little more track time after that before anyone will turn me loose in a race. I will be at the Lemons South next weekend, so hopefully that will give me a little bit more experience too.

Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Andy -

I don’t know of sny good cage/prep shops in Athens, but it might be worth the trip to get to Cumming. Robinson Racing does amazing cages and OPM built a great car for me. Search this site for Robinson and you will get lots of good Atlanta-area cage info.

Look up the Bimmerworld team at Lemons. A bunch of the guys on here will be there as part of that team. Get to know them, so they will have another shoulder to cry on when their schweet E30 gets crushed.
