Just Got a 325

#1

Just picked up a white 1987 325i 4 door this week  and will be getting it ready for the upcoming Spec E30 season. I’m sure I’ll be here with more questions but here is my first. (BTW did a search but couldn’t find the answer) Is there a differnce, other than visual appeal, between the plain aluminum bumpers on my car and the plastic covered ones that come on later model 325’s. I have an opportunity to pick up a set the same color of the car so just wanted to know. Thanks. I look forward to learning and sharing info on this site.

Here she is:

Looks like a good start…Are you building a motor or buying a junkyard motor…Where will you be racing?

Nice starter - I have a similar one.

The rules are your friend. Remember rule #1 - if the rules don’t say you can…you can’t.

Backdating or updating bumpers is not permitted. You need to run the style bumper that came on your car.

Welcome to the fray!

Welcome!

Looks like the perfect starter car… it’s not perfect

As for the bumper… I’m a fan of the big bumpers personally. They make for a good horn replacement.

Good luck with your build. You made a good choice to run in Spec E30.

Looks great! The big bumpers are very…um…forgiving!

The motor in it runs strong. No knocking down low. If compression is good probably just refreshen the head.

Got it. I was wondering if I was missing it in the rule book but after re-reading your second sentence I think I understand. Thanks for the clarification.

I would assume that means that the spoiler found on later models can not be added to an earlier model also.

The only spoiler allowed is the factory is spoiler, and if your car doesn’t have one you can add one.

Just to clarify, the above means that the only rear spoiler allowed is the 325is spoiler. You’re allowed a little room to play with the front:
9.3.13.3. Front spoilers, air dams, and splitters are permitted, provided they do not protrude
more than two (2) inches beyond the overall outline of the body when viewed from
above, perpendicular to the ground, or aft of the forward most part of the fender opening.
This body outline does not include bumpers or bumper mounts, but does include the
integrated bumper assemblies of 1989 to 1991 models.
Doesn’t that car have an e motor (eta) in it? Or has it already been swapped?

They didn’t make '87 “i” four doors, only is two doors. That is why I ask…

#13

Yes they did - I have 2 of them manufactured 1/87 and 2/87.
