"Junkyard" Motors??

#1

Looking for a relatively inexpensive replacement motor for an HPDE car and was hoping someone here might have an extra one laying around that they might part with. Keep in mind, I don’t have Walsh/Lako money so, be gentle.

Answer this first:

Where are you?

What year is the car?

“e” or “i”?

I guess that would help. It’s a 1989 325is. I am in Charlotte and currently the car is a lawn ornament at Jim Pantas’ house.

I have a SETA motor if you are interested…low miles (under 100k). I’m in Birmingham.

finding a decent “junkyard” motor takes a lot of luck these days…saying you don’t have any money makes it tougher…I would not sell a core motor for less than $600 as I can’t find replacements. Keep in mind that that may need bearings a should have a valve job. You can get them cheaper from a u pull it but that would be a total mystery and you still have to go pull it out yourself. How much is your time worth? You can easily burn up a few hundred $'s driving and looking…Start close to Charlotte and gradually widen your search.

For a DE car I think a Super E might be a good option…

Sorry no easy answers

Thanks Chuck. If nothing shows up closer to me in the next few weeks I’ll get back with you. Do you have a price in mind?
