J-Stock Suspension!!

#1

Team Fire Engine Convertible E30 was racing at East Coast Championships in GTS-1. The car was converted over to the J-Stock Suspension from the spec suspension. The dyno sheet for the car is pictured below. At that power you would not expect a E30 to be doing a 1.45 around Road Atlanta. The J-stock suspension is a lot more stable and makes the car do things that you can’t accomplish with the spec suspension. Just wanted to share video of a spec-e30 apart from suspension doing a 1.45 with 20 horsepower down from top E30’s.

Watch from 9:23 until the end for the quick lap.

Might be something to consider on switching to J-stock suspension…

Not happening, grasshopper. Too much history, but Hunt had that choice back in 2004. While you may like the JStock stuff, I 'm pretty sure the springs aren’t available any longer. So, in hindsight, a good decision.?.?

I think it would be a great idea. With a better motor, non-convertible car/drag, and a better driver, hahahaha! JK - who needs another class!

Did you dyno on the track dyno??

I was running slightly stiffer than SpecE30, 143hp/153TQ at the track, hardtop, 2820lbs and best I could do was 1.48 on Sunday.

I would think the stiffer suspension would hurt if you ran the curbs…can’t imagine down 20hp and with the aero disadvantage you were able to turn those laps.

Al,

No i did not dyno at the track, I never got protested and for the weight i had Scott Good never bothered. The lowest weight recorded over the weekend was 2700. I thought you said you had a bad shock Al, wouldnt that hurt your handling a lot. With the power I had I could stand to loose 200 lbs and still be legal for GTS-1.

At VIR I would be glad to put a traqmate in it for you. I have nothing to hide.

Brandon, you are missing my point, I understand you are legal.

My point is you say that you are down 20hp to the spec e30’s, you would have to dyno on the track dyno at nationals to know that. When you dyno’d did any Spec e30’s dyno on that dyno on that day?? So it is hard to attribute the lap times just to the J stock suspension.

After seeing what went on with the dyno at Nationals I would be suspect of any dyno #'s unless there was a large # of like cars to compare.

Anyone want to buy my 149hp, 160tq motor?? I have a dyno cert form that goes with it.

I personally like the soft spec e30 suspension, it allows for off course excursions without problem.

I’d say it clearly has something to do w/ the much stiffer convertible chassis.

Rob, you might actually have a point, the convert may be able to handle the stiffer set up…When I ran a stiff set up on my white GTS 1 sedan it felt “twitchy”

Brandon, what swaybars were you running? I have read that if you go with high spring rates you need to soften the bars,

I’m actually running a bigger sway bar in the front and the same size in the rear. The front one was increased to a 25mm bar. The car is not all that twitchy as a matter of fact. I was running both GTS1 with this vert and running an spec-e30 in the same weekend. Running both of the cars back to back was interesting but the only real difference in driving style was not being to get on the gas as early because of the looseness on exit of the turn because of the bumps on the stiff suspension.
